AVG and Avast merged in 2016 and both are now Gen Digital brands, so AVG Secure VPN runs on the same network as Avast SecureLine with a different logo on the window. Performance and coverage are effectively identical.
What it loses in the rebrand is features: split tunneling is absent on most platforms, and the product is deliberately simplified to a single connect button with a location list.
The privacy questions are inherited wholesale. Avast's Jumpshot data-selling operation and the subsequent FTC action apply to the corporate family this product belongs to, and AVG antivirus users were part of the affected population.
It is competent as plumbing: WireGuard speeds are fine, the kill switch works, ten devices are covered and there is a 30-day guarantee.
There is no scenario where AVG Secure VPN is the best available choice. Existing AVG customers may find it convenient; everyone else should look at the standalone market.
