HMA has the broadest geographic footprint in the industry, with locations in over 200 countries and territories, including many that no competitor bothers with. If you need an exit in an obscure jurisdiction, HMA often has one when nobody else does.

The defining event in its history is 2011, when HMA provided connection logs that helped US authorities identify and convict a member of the LulzSec hacking group. The company was legally required to comply with a UK court order, which is exactly the point: a UK-based provider that keeps any records can be compelled to produce them.

HMA has since adopted a no-logs policy verified by VerSprite in 2022, and it is now part of Gen Digital, the security group behind Norton and Avast. The jurisdiction has not changed, there is no warrant canary, and cryptocurrency payment is not offered.

The product is competent: WireGuard, split tunneling, an IP shuffle feature, dedicated IPs, easy apps and round-the-clock support. Streaming works on Netflix and BBC iPlayer. Speeds are good if unremarkable.

Choose HMA when unusual country coverage is the requirement. For privacy, almost every other provider in this directory is a better fit, and several cost less.
