Our PureVPN review
In 2017 the FBI charged a cyberstalking suspect partly on the basis of records PureVPN supplied, despite the company advertising a no-logs policy at the time. That case is the defining fact in PureVPN's history and no amount of subsequent marketing erases it.
What the company did next is the mitigating half. It moved incorporation from Hong Kong to the British Virgin Islands, rebuilt on diskless servers, and commissioned KPMG to audit its no-logs claim, repeating that audit annually rather than once. Very few providers have subjected themselves to recurring assurance work.
The current product is broad. Around 6,500 servers, WireGuard support, obfuscation, multi-hop, split tunneling, port forwarding and dedicated IPs as add-ons, Fire TV and router apps, and 10 simultaneous devices. Streaming works on the major platforms and there is a 31-day refund window.
The purchase experience is the least pleasant part. Add-ons are pre-selected at checkout, the pricing page pushes hard, and the renewal at roughly $6.99/mo is more than triple the advertised rate. Speeds are acceptable but do not match the top tier despite the large fleet.
PureVPN is a reasonable budget choice today, and the audit cadence is genuinely better than most rivals at this price. Whether the 2017 case disqualifies it is a judgment each buyer has to make; if it does, Proton VPN or Surfshark cost little more.

Frequently asked questions

What does PureVPN cost after the promo?
The two-year plan renews around $6.99/mo, more than triple the advertised rate. Add-ons such as dedicated IP and port forwarding are billed separately.
Does PureVPN work with Netflix?
Yes on several regions in our checks, along with BBC iPlayer and Disney+, though it is less consistent than NordVPN or Surfshark.
